Overall a good Handycam for all purpose

Strengths: Sound quality is superb!! Still pictures are great. Video is outstanding. The battery life was also good. The camera is compact in size and extremely light in comparison to a regular palm camera.

Weakness: Video Quality Detoriates when taken in low light. Lots of grains appears in the video. Closeup video is also not very good.

I've been using it for a couple of months, and I love it. The harddisk is a gift, once you get used to it, you'll never believe that you've been using tape before. The USB 2.0 transfer to your computer works like a charm and it's pretty quick even for very large files.

DCR-SR300 --- Easy to use..

Strengths: Compact, easy to use, Point and shoot. Great Video and Pictures. Can shoot upto 3 stills while recording video. Mpg format video makes it easy to make DVDs.

Weakness: Built in microphone is so-so. Have to buy proprietary Sony Mic input, if you need a different mic. Also could use a bit higher optical zoom, although default 10x optical zoom is still great.

The SR300 is easy to use and that is what I wanted. My wife can easily use it to shoot videos / stills of our little one. Video from this camera is in mpg format, so your DVD software does not have to convert the files. You can burn DVDs directly using Sony's software or even easily edit your own DVDs using Nero without converting the files. Videos are great to watch on your TV. Still Picture quality is great. I have jumped from 3 MP to 6 MP stills and am impressed. Also don't have to carry 2 different cameras around for every trip. Could definitely use a slightly longer battery life. Am thinking about buying a spare for my trips. Overall, a great camera with easy to use features.

Excellent so far...

Strengths: Compact, portable, excellent picture quality (still and video) and easy to use.

Weakness: no viewfinder, price

Just had it for a couple of days and so far, I'm impressed. Picture quality is excellent. Low light is good too. Previewing with a hard disk is awesome. MPEG files are easily transferred to PC and manipulated or straight to DVD.

Price is a bit on the high side. But it's expected since the unit just came out. But you can pay a hundred or two more and get high def camcorders.

Review of Handycam DCR-SR300 Hard Drive Digital...

Strengths: Great Product, Handy, Long battery Life

Weakness: Not good for capturing images at Night

I am using this Handycam for a while. It is really 'Handy', looks stylish, and perhaps everything i expected of a handycam, but its ability to capture video at night is simply horrible. None of the settings, i tried worked at night time.

DCR-SR300 Review

Strengths: Compact size, 6MP, 40GB HDD, Touch-Screen LCD

Weakness: Must use cradle to charge

This camera is GREAT for the money. The learning curve is low and I am making use of all of its features without ever having to look at the manual. The clarity of the photos this camera takes is stunning. It truly is a high quality digital camera and camcorder in one. I am very pleased with my purchase.

The camera battery can be charged without the cradle. Look for the DC IN jack near the battery( back right hand side). Connect the wire that goes into the cradle in there. I did it myself.
Hope this helps.

DCR-SR300

Strengths: Easy to operate, touch screen easy to use. Separates video and pictures easily. Simple to transfer to computer and make DVDs.

Weakness: Battery sticks out

I was looking for a camcorder that would be easy to use, great picture quality for recording and have the ability to take good quality pictures. It was also important to be able to transfer the images onto the computer easily for recording onto the DVDs. I feel like I got a great product for a good price.

Sony Handycam DCR-SR300 (40GB)

THE GOOD: The Sony DCR-SR300 digital camcorder has a nice 10x optical zoom lens; effective hybrid image stabilization; a hot shoe for optional accessories. THE BAD: Compression artifacts mar otherwise nice video; no viewfinder; awkward touch screen interface; somewhat pricey given its image quality; no minijack mic input. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Sony DCR-SR300 digital camcorder should appeal to...
